Im aware that the iphone 5 currently doesnt work with O2's 4g network but will it remain this way forever? Im assuming the only way it will ever work is if O2 ever obtain a 4g frequency which the iphone 5 is compatible on.

It will not work on the O2 4G network ever. If you want to stay with O2, best thing to do is upgrade to the 5S or wait for the iPhone 6.

O2 will never have 1800mhz 4g that the 5 needs they do not have enough space in that band to do it
