Bought a 5s off ebay and its locked to O2, can i get it unlocked?

Im actually on three, and bought a 5s on ebay that was aparently unlocked but it turnso ut its locked to o2. What are my options?

The seller wont help me.

Hi.

You need to ask the original owner to unlock it via going through o2 if they will unlock it or ask for a refund.

O2 are not currently unlocking the iPhone 5s on payg and only on refresh tariffs when the phone plan has been fully paid for.

To add check the item description on e bay. If it says unlocked or unlocked to all networks then raise a dispute though e bay / paypal.

The seller has no choice if they have listed it wrongly.

If it is detailed as locked to O2 then you will have to either use it on O2 or sell it and buy another on 3 or unlocked.

How long before they will unlock them on pay as go? I cant be arsed witht he hassle of sending back as the seller wants me to pay for return postage.

You would have to keep checking O2's homepage and on here.

Typically it's around 6 months after launch date.

Even when they allow unlocking it's gonna cost you £15+ so cheaper to send it back if misdescribed.

If you have a problem with any item from Ebay which you feel is faulty or not as described then you MUST report the seller to Ebay and Paypal.

You have contacted the seller who is not helping you at all. You should not be responsible for any postage costs if you have been mis-sold a product. You will have to return it but any costs you incur should be refunded.

With cases like this it is important to involve Ebay and Paypal asap.

(I have first hand experience of this!)

Was the iPhone advertised as network unlocked? If so, then you may have a case to answer.

This is just one of the many reasons I don't use eBay or Gumtree to make purchases. There is so many unscrupilous vendors on both of these private sales sections. A 'caveat empor' should be applied to every purchase you make on these websites.

The original owner would have to deregister the device from their Apple account to allow the ownership to pass to you. At least this is my understanding of the hardware/software license transfer process. Somebody else can confirm or dispute that for you.

iPhones on iOS 7 have an activation lockout to stop finders of the phone from restoring it and using it themselves.

it was sealed so unused. The list didnt mention any lock at all, but also didnt mention unlocked.

I got a pretty good deal on it so id rather keep it and get it unlocked if i can.

You'll just have to wait until o2 allow unlocking and then top up a payg sim with £20 to get the unlock processed, or pac your number across to o2 and use the o2 network.

ive ordered an o2 pay go sim today. Ill use that to activate it and then use an r-sim9 in it untill they will let me unlock it on pay go. Ill happily pay the paygo price to unlock it.

Cant port my number as i have 12 months left on three.

If it works, it is a device to bypass the network lock to allow you to use other sim cards in a locked phone.
