iPhone Rebooting Itself

I got my iPhone 5s replaced by Apple in October and I haven't had any big issues with it until this weekend.

It has rebooted itself 4 times in 2 days. Sometimes I am just holding the phone and going between apps and it shuts itself off and I have to wait for the Apple logo to come up. It's obviously not a proper reboot though because it accepts my fingerprint scan first time (after a reboot it asks for your passcode first).

When I look in the diagnostics, I used to have a lot of entries (mostly Facebook crashing, etc), there are now only 3 entries. I don't know where all of the other entries have gone. The entries I have are 3 called 'Springboard' and one called 'Latest rash' but when I open it up, that also mentions Springboard.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Hi Gemma.

You could hold off to see if it's just a glitch or .......

Reset via the power button and home button method.

As your on stock iOS I would suggest restoring the iPhone via iTunes.

Be sure to create a back up first.
Last resort would be to make an apple genius appointment.

If the springboard is the homescreen then how can it be crashing my phone?

It could be a rogue app somehow.

It's hard to say.

The apple genius would be able to run a diagnostic on the iPhone to read the crash reports.

What was the last app you downloaded ?

Try removing that or look at its reviews to see if others have had issues.

I'm careful with the apps that I download.

The last update I did was Twitter and the last download was Game.

Being on stock Gemma all you can download is from the App Store so nothing should clash but it can happen.

Either leave it a while to see if this continues or resolves itself ,or follow the advice to restore or seek assistance from apple.

My 5S also reboots and crashes occasionally. As does my iPad Air. I read it was because iOS had to be completely rewritten for the 64 bit chips the newest iDevices have and theres still a few teething issues.

May be sorted when iOS 7.1 drops which shouldn't be too far away from what I've read

Ok thanks davethorp. I'm glad it's not just me.

I am eagerly awaiting the iOS 7.1 mostly because of the apparent changes to the calendar app (which I hate at the moment), but if it stops my phone from the random rebooting then i'll be happy

Also, keep a look out for any PANIC.PLIST entries in the diagnostic log. If you have any of these, then its usually a hardware fault and chances are you will need it replaced.

Go into Settings/General/About. Scroll down to Diagnostic & Usage. Touch this then touch Diagnostic & Usage Data. Its normal to have entries in there but the ones to look out for are PANIC.PLIST.

I had a 4S that would randomly reboot, and I had PANIC.PLIST entries in the diagnostic log and I needed to have my 4S replaced.

I just checked and I haven't got an entry that says PANIC.PLIST so I guess that's one good thing.

It's rebooted about 3 times the last few days.

I will be clearing it and restoring it this week to see if that helps.

Yeah that is a good thing gemz.

If possible, the next time it reboots, straight away go into the diagnostic log again and check. Sometimes the diagnostic log clears itself after a period of time. So its worth checking the diagnostic log straight away in case you miss something that has been cleared

If the random reboots persist, I would make a Genius Bar appointment with a view to getting it replaced again as it isn't normal.

Have you restored the iOS on the iPhone as suggested ?

If so and this is persisting then as I suggested in the very first reply to your opening thread seek assistance from the Apple Genius Bar.

I was giving it a few days to see if it stopped.

I will be rebooting it this week when I get a chance to go on my laptop and I will let you know if it helps

I restored the phone and up to now it hasn't rebooted itself (touch wood).

Since restoring it, it has rebooted itself a few times.

I have about 20 entries in the diagnostics list, such as:

-DMTT

-MobileSMS.plist

-Springboard.plist

-MobileSafari

-Springboard

-stacks+MobileCal

-stacks+timed

-Twitter

The DMT ones are the ones which I haven't got a clue about - some entries start with DMT and dates with other information and some start with latest crash in the title.

Does anyone have any ideas?
