Unlocking an O2 iPhone 4s

Just wondering what to do really,
I currently have a contract with O2 that was a 12 month one but after finishing it a few months ago has become a monthly lapsing one. I recently had to replace my phone with an iPhone 4S which I bought outright and is locked to O2. I have tried usig the online service of trying to unlock the phone, however after every attempt I receive the same message back basically saying I haven't passed security checks with the information that I submitted in the unlocking form.
I walked into the shop today and asked for assistance with the matter however I was told, before finishing explaining to the shop assistant, that they can't do anything for me there.
I dont know what to do now, and I am going abroad in a couple of days, thus the need to get it unlocked, and need to be able to put a foreign SIM in the phone.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I feel like I'm a dog chasing their own tail at the moment

As far as I'm aware the Pay and Go phone you have just bought will be locked to the network for 12 months from the date of purchase.

Hi.

It sounds like something your putting something in the form wrong. It could be anything !

Regarding unlocking the iPhone.

Make some chargeable calls on it to latch your imei of the phone to your account ,and then fill out the form.

Or ask a family member / friend with the same sized SIM card or use a free adapter for the SIM card which are available from any O2 shops to make it the right size ,and ask them to request the unlock.

Or pick up a payg SIM card and activate it with O2. Add £20 to it and make some chargeable calls again. Leave £15 on it and request the unlock.

When you get the e mail insert a non O2 SIM card and hook up to iTunes to complete the unlocking sequence.

The iPhone is an exception to the 12 Month rule.
Currently only the iPhone 5s & 5c are not unlock-able on payg and only on contract when the handset has been fully paid for.

When filling out the form copy the name of your tariff exactly as it appears in your "My O2".
The password is not the password you log on here with - It is the one that is set on your account which you can also view in your "My O2" under security details.

Or you could try doing what I did, as I neded an iphone unlocked which was tied to O2. I called them, even though I am no longer a customer and explained my predicamanet (smashed phone and now with Vodafone) and my some marvellous movements on a Sunday it unlocked on itunes 4 hours later despite the 72 hour expectation.

However as has been rightly pointed out it may be because it is tied in for 12 months, although I am unclear whether it is pay as you go or not. I bought a phone outright from O2 once and they were fine unlocking it as I stayed with them on their rolling contract.

Contract Customers can unlock their phone at anytime except those on Refresh Tariffs for the iPhone 5s and 5c.

People have paid off their phone part of the refresh deal and then ask for their unlocking solution.

Customers on payg have to wait 12 months before unlocking with the only exception being the iPhone models (except iPhone 5s and 5c)

Reason for rejection is clearly stated as "not passing security checks" which usually means the wrong password is been used.

I have just taken over my step-son's iPhone 4 which was served by Tesco. They sent him details of unlocking the phone (which I did not need as I am happy with o2). Here for you, then, is the information sent:

To unlock your iPhone:

Insert a SIM card from another network, then turn the phone on.
Connect the iPhone to the PC.
Open iTunes.
If any notifications appear click Later or Cancel.
Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked message will appear.

The phone will now be unlocked.

Note: If unlatching fails, disconnect the iPhone and then reconnect it.

Note: When inserting a SIM card from another network please use a SIM card that is not Tesco Mobile, O2 or GiffGaff.
