Is it possible to turn wifi/data on just to go on safari?

Sometimes i'd rather just surf the internet and not want notifications about apps, etc.

Is there a way to do it without having to turn the notifications off individually and then turn them all back on when I want to use them?

I'm not an Apple person, but I can't see that having WiFi/Data on would be any different on Android. Once you enable your data or WiFi it's on and that's that. I doubt that you can be specific as to what it connects to unless you disable your apps. Just make sure your apps are all updated over WiFi before you turn your data on.

Your best bet would be an app from the iTunes that allowed you control tasks. With some apps on Android apps, they come with a Wi-Fi only option which means they only update this is in use.

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/data-monitor-manage-data-usage/id576233634?mt=8

Something like this might help control what apps get priority.

Thanks for the advice anticpated but this app is just to monitor data usage and does not allow you to control what data is used for different apps.

I used to use a firewall program to prevent GSM data accessing programs on my older Galaxy S2. So perhaps this is what you need, something that allows to add permissions to what gets access and decide what method you want to use.

As an alternative, and I'm not sure if this type of app is available for iPhone, but on Android and BlackBerry there are apps that can turn on your Wifi depending on your location.

Basically you teach the app/phone where you want WiFi to be turned on and it uses your GPS to determine where you are. This way you could safely know that your WiFi will turn on autmoatically when you are at home for example but as soon as you leave it will switch off.

I'm not sure how it would handle the data connection though. Could you just switch your phone to 2G only?
