What is a cash back Tariff? Why do you give way £150? What are the differences between a cash back tariff and choosing a new tariff?

Do you have a link for the tariff you were looking at?

I've don't think I've seen these on the O2 site but you can find them at a site like Quidco for example.

O2 do offer these but usually it's when you sign up to a new contract and keep your old phone

I was offered £150 to switch to a simo tariff when my contract ran out. It was a credit applied to the account.
You may also find cash back offered from 3rd party resellers like Carphonewarehouse but this is cash back from the reseller and nothing to do with O2.

That's an O2 Reward isn't it, I've got that in my account for taking out a contract?

Not what I would normally call a cashback offer and not a tariff.

Yes, it would be better described as a "Reward".

I'm guessing the OP has seen cashback deals on 3rd party sites and doesn't realise it's nothing to do with O2 - However, we may never know......

There are definitely Cash Back tariffs on offer on the O2 website - I am considering it but don't see an explanation as to how they give the money (£150) back.

Does anyone know if its through concessions to the monthly rate or whether its a lump sum?

There is very little information available to make an informed decision.

I wonder if the OP is talking about the current sale where o2 are giving £150 off the S4 and HTC one reducing the upfront cost from £199 to £49 or similar.

I too havent seen cash back direct from o2 where it is taken monthly.

You won't, because O2 don't do them directly....

Some 3rd parties and resellers, yes, but not directly......

This is one of the "upgrade" options given to me now that my contract is running out in less than a month. I was set to switching to giffgaff as the 7.50 pounds per month goodybag is better than any SIM-only offered by O2, but am now considering the 11 pound cashback thingy.

If it works as it sounds, i.e. 11 pounds per month but I get 150 pounds back at some point, that would be worth it as it's only 4.75 per month overall then... but does it? There's absolutely no info anywhere on this.

The £150 offer is available to some customers when upgrading and it is applied as a one time credit to your account. The payments are taken monthly from this £150 until used up and then you get billed and charged as normal.
This is not a general consumer tariff and is only available to some upgrading customers.
