Since I installed the ISO 7 update ISO 7.0.2 I lost my wifi, spoke to apple and had to do a reset through iTunes that got my wifi working again. Then ISO 7.0.3 stopped my wifi again tried all the resets again but still no wifi. Spoke to apple again and was told it was a hard ware problem and nothing to do with the updates.

After all this i thought I was going to be stuck with a faulty phone.

Final I found a post that with these steps

Turn airplane mode on
Turn do not disturb on
Turn phone off
Leave for about five mins
Turn on
Turn airplane mode off
Turn do not disturb off
And now my wifi works

Thanks for sharing.

Sometimes performing a reset through your iPhone can help.

Settings &General & Reset & Reset Network Settings
But obviously not in your case. 😞

Or going into your settings and 'forgetting the network' can help too.

Glad you got sorted.

Thanks but I know this, but my point is since it's O2 I bought the phone of, they should be a little more helpful. I understand that the phone only has a one year warranty but O2's contracts are 2 years and there should at least let me out of my contact if I send the phone back. At least then I would be free to start fresh, after all it's a faulty phone that they sold me.

Hi.

Sorry I was just trying to help.

If apple are confirming to you it's a hardware fault then get it swapped out at your local apple store by making the appointment I suggested.

What you say has been touched upon in the forum recently.

http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-and-Pay-Go/What-is-support-on-a-24-month-contract/m-p/532210/highlight/true#M52400

Apparently it's not the manufacturer but the retailer in Uk Consumer law applies a warranty.

O2 won't cancel a contract on this basis.

You could challenge them via a complaint but Im not sure where this would get you.

I'll add the link anyway.

http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/srvs/cgi-bin/webcgi.exe?New,KB=Companion,question=ref%28user%29:str%28RelatedHelp%29,CASE=46943

I can Tell you that Ive had a simular issue with a Friends iPhone 4S with the Wifi.

We walked into Apple who confirmed that yes it is a Fault with the Wifi chip on the phone. but the phone is 14 Months old and wouldnt be covered by them.

So as per the Apples own website, it says for the 2nd year under consumer law, I can take it back to the retailer, in this case o2 and they will cover this.

OMG, First o2 shop was rude, couldnt be bothered and said were getting sick of Apple sending people over to us, Its not covered and you will have to pay if you want it repairing.

I quoted what Apple website says and what the law is, I was told Apple website is wrong and im not covered and not bothered about the Law. o2 will not cover for a 2nd year.

So I went back to Apple, who said that o2 have a right to repair the phone under this law and that If i had got the iPhone from Apple, they would replace it.

Back to o2 but a different Shop this time. Same answers, although they were more polite. I was even shown a email sent to the shop from O2, Email advising that they will not offer a 2nd year warranty as they have checked the ruiling out and Trading Standards says that they dont have to. They can offer to repair it as the consumer request at a charge. They can then try to recoup the money.

You can imaging my anger and frustration. Apple will replace the phone if bought from them, but are not interested if not, o2 just not interested at all and rude about it.

Im still waiting a email regarding this from the shop as I told them that they need this looking into, this was over a Month ago and nothing.

I can now tell you that my friend sold the iPhone and bought a Sony Experia.

All I can say is email the CEO of o2, and email Apple together. Also email trading Standards as o2 are saying its them now who says they dont have to get it repaired for free.

Good luck, but i can tell you it has left me with a bitter taste

I can also tell you that this issue with the iPhone 4S, is widely known on the internet

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5112134

and there are more discussions than that. However some people have had there phones replaced free (Possible louder you shout the more they listen). My friend just wanted to get rid of hers in the end so I couldnt do anything else other than what ive done, but thought I would share my experience as well

Thank you for giving your account.

I always opt to buy direct from Apple to be honest after finding out years ago that if you walk back into a network shop with a problem handset they tend to batten down the hatches to protect their storeroom stock and possibly their margin too !

Yes Ive seen that as well. Its like once your warranty runs out, all they see is Money signs to repair it, Its just starnge that Apple clearly say on the net that its down to the reseller for the 2nd year and o2 are refusing to cover this.

When I went back to Apple, he did say that he has heard this on many occasions and was sypathetic, but he just couldnt do anything and the responsability in this case would be o2.

What annoyed me more was the arrogance, rudeness and unhelpfulnes of o2 staff in the store and what even annoyed me more I got well its possible a software issue, I said no Apple have looked at it and said its the wifi board that has failed, The staff just muttered and said well we dont cover it and Apple are wrong for sending you here.

Oh and I got, did you take out Insurance on the handest, as soon as I said no, even more defences then came up and one staff memeber just walked away leaving the other one to refuse everything i said.

When the iPhone 5 was released last year and people were unhappy at the chips and scuff marks on the antenna banding then apple would only look after the people who bought their handsets from them, ie swap it out.

When I got mine from Meadowhall the specialist insisted i took it out of the box to ensure I was 100% happy with it.

Now apple care + is available then it's the customers choice to further insure it if home insurance or bank account type insurance is not available.

If their is clearly confusion at O2 store level then how is the consumer supposed to move forward with this.

I've flagged @Toby who is O2 site staff to try and find out what o2's official stance on this is.

This is what I mean. We can state what uk consumer law is ,but applying it is another matter completely.

I agree, Consumer law means nothing and It was Meadowhall as well.

What puzzled me was that o2 has a email saying that they dont have to cover them, but Apple clearly says they do.

What would make it easy if Apple would just offer 2 year warranty no matterwhere you got it from in UK.

That was my nearest apple store for a long time. 1 hour train journey each way.

They wanted me to remain in store until I'd checked it over and used their inhouse wifi to use iCloud.

Best buying experience in a long time.

I bought an iPhone 4S from an O2 shop. First one lost interest when they found out I was buying it on payg and mysteriously the computers went down so I couldn't purchase it and told to come back. O2 shop round the corner from that one sold me it and said the computers hadn't been down at all. But when I asked to open it to have a look i was met with an expression of surprise, saying they don't do that until I'd purchased it. Paid my money and opened it and then was ushered out of the door ! Lol.

Yes, Apple at Meadowhall are completely different to the rest of the industry I think.

Ive been to Apple at Covent Gardens a few times as well, cant be more helpful. Stayed in there for a hour due to bad weather and was so helpful. Was able to use there free wifi and toilets and even sat upstairs on the comfy seats while on the macs.

Makes a change and a good shopping experience to me

The only issue is after 6 months the consumer has to prove the fault was present at time of delivery of the goods.

So apple give 12 months no quibble then the consumer has to prove to o2 the fault was present. So until a consumer takes this through the full legal process via trading standards small claims etc companies will wash there hands of the matter. Or until laws are tightened to enforce a warranty for the life of a contract.

But If you can get apple to admit this fault in writing (that it is a manufacturing issue) then o2 would have to honour the requirements of the sale of goods act. (apples admission is the crux of the argument or seeking your own engineers report)

I highly doubt Apple would shoot themselves in the foot and issue something to say its a manufacturers issue.

This is where the law is an a$$

It should be the manufacturer who is responsible. They created / bought the parts. Assembled it and distributed it.

O2 simply sold it on.

Ludicrous.

I noticed the other day that after i had the phone switched off for a few hours wifi and 3G are working fine, but i noticed when i turned it back on the more i used wifi i.e. i downloaded a couple of apps and the phone started to heat up. that’s when things started to go wrong again i lost wifi and 3G.

The phone started to get pretty hot so I had to turn it off.

What is the chance of the phone getting too hot and stetting fire or leaking battery acid?

Very rare.

Phones get warm with use and with charging. Body heat adds too.

But should not be too warm to handle / use.
