Is this a SIM-only upgrade?

Lately, I have been seeing the offer screenshotted below on my Twitter timeline.

As I approach end of my 2-year £45 contract bundle (not O2 Refresh!) in December, I am looking for a way to keep unlimited calls and texts and have a decent data allowance at the cheapest possible rate.

I have heard mixed reports about going to O2 Business, but as my phone, an OP6T, should be serviceable for another year or more at least, moving from my £45/month 75GB (25GB plus 3X bolt-on for two years, expiring mid-Dec) phone and call plan through Mobile Phones Direct seems good.

This Business tariff seems a lot less than this at £18.00 for 100GB with rollover each month (presumably VAT has to go onto that at 20%, so £21.60 in real terms).

Sounds appealing - if I switch my number to the new tariff at no cost.

Or have I greatly misunderstood?

Educate me, O2 Community, please.

Normal consumer tariff is £20 for 100gb.

A business contract isn't really suitable unless you have a business with a number of devices on it.

I'd stick with a regular contract.

Thanks, @MI5 - the Consumer version seems to be cheaper, until 04-Nov-2020 anyway.

Now I wonder if O2 are still offering me "Upgrade on Us" on MyO2?

The splits seem silly on Business data pricing, doubtless similar on Consumer too:

£18 for 100GB

£16 for 40GB

£10 for 2GB

It's all a bit of a con really for the low-data user.

The 100gb for £20 isn't really an offer as it's been that price for the last 12 months at least, so I'd expect it to be the same after the "offer" period ends.

The upgrade on us offers were only applicable if you took a full refresh contract with phone and not for simo upgrades.

You need to add VAT which makes it as you say £21.60 and is for 24mths..

The only benefit is you get Data Rollover....

From my time on here, I can say the only people who have been happy with a business contract are business users @pgn

With the exception of @Glory1 who felt a business contract suited her very well...

Thanks @Cleoriff, @madasaf1sh, @MI5 - it looks like I'll wait until my current contract is up, which is actually 2nd-week Jan-21, and move to Consumer SIM-Only 12-month at £20 for 100GB/Unlimited texts and calls.

I have a 50GB data bolt-on that expires in Jan-2020, and another one that says it expires in May-2021 - but I suspect I will lose both when I switch to Sim-only for 12 months at £20/month.

On the plus-side, I'll be saving £25/month, and on the minus-side, won't have a nice new phone for another year or so. Swings and Roundabouts.

And the RPI will add a small amount in April, I guess.

Not exactly on the topic of SIMO deals, but related to the RPI increase discussed here - this headline popped up in relation to Vodafone and EE earlier, and I wondered why O2 did not feature:

Does O2's increase *only* add the RPI figure, whereas the other companies use it to bolt-on their own percentage on top of the RPI figure?

Or is the MoneySavingExpert website just driving traffic their way (clickbait)?

Doubtless such cost increases are, or will be, another effect of the transition to a "fully sovereign United Kingdom".

Still, gives us all something to look forward to, I guess.
