largest Supermoon in 70 years will

Hi Everyone,

Great news for Astronomy fans and star gazers out there, the largest supermoon in nearly 70 years will grace our skies on Monday 14 November! A supermoon occurs when the full moon occurs with the Moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit and is aligned with the sun. This gives the full Moon a much larger and brighter appearance.

Monday's supermoon is unique as the Moon will be the closest to Earth it’s been since January 1948 and it wont get this close again until 2034!

British weather permitting we should get a good look at this event. Will anyone else be taking a look?

That's 5 years on the bounce we're gonna see the largest supermoon....
Anyone else thinking it's just getting closer?

I know absolutely nothing about the 'closeness' of it at all...so will rely on you and your pictures @viridis....

(True meaning..if its this cold on that date...you wont see me outside..)

Personally I find these things fascinating, always have done since being a child. Hopefully we can see it here.

Apparently the Moon is moving away from the Earth at about a centimetre a year. Not very fast at all but at least it's not spiraling in!

@jonsie I believe you can see it from there. It's not like an eclipse which is only in certain areas and should be visible world wide.

You should get a fantastic view then! Have a look when the Moon is closest to the horizon as it looks largest when near to a point of reference like a building.

Loykatong festival here, happy water. Always occurs on the first full moon in November so I will be on the beach hoping the skies aren't fogged over with the fireworks and the thousands of Chinese lanterns.

That sounds lovely, @jonsie even if the moon wasn't showing through.

I could see the moon OK here but the photos didn't do it justice....
