Bye Bye Orange Wednesday

EE have announced that there will be no more Orange Wednesday cinema offers after 25th February 2015.

From about 1994 EE (which merged with Orange and Tmobile), have been running an offer whereby their customers could apply for a code to be sent to their mobile in order to get 2 for 1 on cinema tickets.

All is not lost as EE have confirmed that they will be introducing a new offer to its customers following the end of Orange Wednesdays.

That is what EE said in their statement - they wanted to move with the times and update their offers in order to appeal to more people.

I believe your facts are incorrect. The Orange cinema ticket offer has been going for around 10 years, not since 1994, and EE is not a merger with Orange and T-Mobile, but a merger of Orange and T-Mobile.

@Bambino is correct about how EE was formed through a joint partnership merger of Orange (owned by Orange S.A. and Deutsche Telekom).

EE announced the ending of Orange Wednesdays as they were unable to agree commercial terms with cinema chains.

How do you move with supply and demand? I couldn't imagine orange using that term.

But not in O2's case......the demand for various phones recently was high but supply was non-existent.

Are you saying the Manufacturers didn't keep to any set up agreement to supply the requested / agreed amount of units to O2 ?

Apple supply what they "want" to all networks.They didn't predict the high demand...or they did and used it as a marketing tool/publicity stunt...I guess we will never know

If people stop to think a little bit they will understand...why wouldn't O2 want to sell and have this many complaints ??Why would O2 have this many weeks waiting time if they could just order whatever amount of Iphones and fufill the orders?? Food for though...

Bearing in mind of course that after the initial annual blood bath, stores and independents seemed to have them readily in stock or minimal waiting time.

I guess CPW hAve better buying and supply clout these days compared to the networks?

I don't know the figures but I would guess that CPW sell many more contracts/handsets than all the networks combined?

Apologies for the confusion - sometimes it's hard to believe that 2004 was 10 years ago. It's hard to believe that it's nearly 2015!!

I said Orange Wednesday started in 'about 1994' - about 10 years before that date is correct lol

O2 as part of Telefonica will have huge buying power around the world in the same way as Vodafone, AT&T and Verizon do. The world's largest mobile firm China Mobile previously refused to deal with Apple due to the way they perceived Apples business methods (plus they are American).

When you think China Mobile has around 800 million customers, Vodafone 450 million etc, the buying power is colossal BUT they all have one thing in common, they have to pre order months in advance based on what they think they will sell and don't want to be left with unsold stock they can't shift.

Indeed earlier this year the press reported that Verizon had under sold IPhones by a huge number and were potentially facing a penalty from Apple to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars.

That is one reason why networks don't have the stock. True CPW are fairly big in the UK but globally they are a small player.

Of course there is a second reason and that is manufacturing capacity / capability. Factories need to be churning stock out all year so in order to build tens of millions of devices they can't all be built at once. As soon as the first few dozen million are ready the manufacturers will want them out there before competitors get a March on them.

It is also good to whip up a frenzy to encourage waverers to buy their device instead of that of the competition.
