Along with the design changes, Apple also added a new Dark Mode to OS X, that makes the menu bar and the dock darker.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;By default, the menu bar and the dock art translucent, but have a white tint to them.       <description>&lt;P&gt;Apparently enhancing the darks improves the perceived clarity by contrasting the lights rather than an embossed or saturated display. Adding dark edges adds depth to most images.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
