Hot fruit punch is a great favourite in our house: this one, Northern Lights, based on a beverage we shared at a Christmas Market in Germany years ago!

In a large pot, preferably with a lid, mix:

1 x 1l carton of Cranberry juice
1 x 1l carton of Apple juice
0.5l of red grape juice
6 cloves
4 cinnamon sticks (approx 5cm long each stick)
250g of fresh cranberries, if you can find them,
3 thickly-cut slices of lemon, peel-on;
one green apple, cut into 5 or so thick rings (cored if you wish)
1 to 2 tablespoons dark Muscovado sugar, according to taste.

Bring all to the boil, then simmer for 30mins before removing the lemon slices.

Leave to simmer for a further hour or so (this concoction will gladly sit simmering all day so long as you don't let the pot boil dry, and remember to top it up with the juices described above occasionally) and then serve up in warmed cups or mugs.

For the adults, a shot of vodka, rum or brandy added to your portion will help to melt the effect of any outdoor activity undertaken in snowy, windy or wet conditions. Served without the alcohol, it is also a favourite of the younger mouths in our family, and it suffuses the kitchen with heavenly aromas of Christmas spices...

Even though I'm not a vegetarian, I could eat everything on offer.

Both finished off with fresh fruit. Delicious.

Our family Christmas is on the 26th this year when we are having a 3 course carvery out at a local wonderful restaurant (specialising in Carvery meals (what else?) 😂

On Christmas day, with just 3 of us at home, we shall be eating steak, chips, mushrooms and baked beans.

I adore Christmas pudding usually put it but this year change.

I love all the trimmings and roast potatoes, sage and onion sausage meat stuffing. My mother used to add bread sauce too!

I`ll be having mock duck, peas, roast and new potatoes, carrots; followed by warm mince pies and cream; with mug of black tea.

If you and Kevin weren't so close these days I'd be inviting myself over to your place for Christmas Dinner. It all looks fantastic. 👍

This year it'll be a traditional meal here but missing a few people. It will just be MrsM and myself because our son and his wife are both ill with covid and also our daughter's husband is just recovering so they won't be going out either. There's still a lot of it about. So it's just going to be my wife and myself this year with our turkey and paper hats. All the more for us though and lots more crackers to pull. Sending my best wishes to you and everyone else on the community.

No problem with turkey, ham, veg - but you are right, keep the punch on the light side until after the turkey etc has been served up. Mind you, the Irish coffee is nice, nobody else here joins me when I make it after Christmas dinner - it is most luscious.

At the Belfast Christmas market last Sunday, my son said the hot chocolate with Bailey's was nice - it was, so I have a bottle of Bailey's, plenty of drinking chocolate, and some baby marshmallows, see if they will have one of those while I have my Irish coffee 😋
