I'm sure there are some car enthusiasts out there

I have found my dream car; A snake skin Bentley. Tacky or not?

I'm still very nostalgic for my first ever car when motoring was my job, my hobby and a total joy. The most fun I ever had with a car!

This was my first ever motor and it cost me about £45, now you may laugh but kitted out inside and a few mates onboard, we could go anywhere for some crazy weekends.

I even did a bit of roady work for a South African group called The Bats. No you didn't hear of them.

I loved the Cortina too jonsie, I managed to blow one up, so I ripped out the motor and fitted new big end shells and piston rings and re-fitted it on my own, must have been mad!

A fifty yard tow down the road because it was so tight and it fired and ran until I got rid of it a few months later.

Of course, I'd forgotten so you know what was involved on that job, it took about 3 days and I did it on the living room floor.

Bet you were popular!

Had to tow many a car with a rebuilt engine in the days when you had to hone the bearings to fit the crankshaft. There was always immense job satisfaction in rebuilding engines and gearboxes:smileyhappy:

Never did one on the living room floor but I did once fill up the bath with Gunk and left a cylinder head and pistons soaking for a day. Mum went bananas!:smileytongue:

Had no choice really, I was self employed and that car was all I had for work, it was in the winter and freezing too, so I drained it well and lugged it in onto a thick dust sheet.

I used to travel all over the country fitting showers, one a day, believe it or not which meant doing the wiring, plumbing tiling and a fitting a shower cabinet or screen.

Definitely no fun in winter even working in a workshop. No heating in those days and you opened the big doors to move a car in or out and the other mechanics would throw spanners at you!

I lasted six months at that and was as skinny as a rake, so I called time on it.

I used to hit the customer's front door running at about 6.30am and if I was lucky I would be finished and away by about 8 or 9pm.

Ahh memories, I also had a short spell at a posh Rover/Triumph main dealer, with electric doors.

I can't remember if we had heaters or not.

I do remember sending a lad over to the local shop to ask the owner if his daughter was still coming to the orgy on Saturday night.

That's the one perksie.
They can keep their modern cars.

Err.. are you sure about the date though, I thought they were much earlier (late 50's early 60's)

That's the Mark III, the Mark I was indeed from 1959.

The one I showed actually was from 1963 not 1965, I don't know how I got that wrong?

Even the RS6 Avant (from Audi too) is my favorite, I'll post this one (A4 Avant) - which I'll buy next summer
