BBC Radio 2 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ Abbey Road album with RADIO 2 BEATLES, a four-day pop-up DAB radio station.

I am just watching This Morning.

One of the presenters rolled out a rubber zebra crossing outside the ITV studios in London....and a number of kids were dressed up and dancing to a Beatles track. When it finished the 'zebra crossing' was rolled up and off they went. Brilliant.

Apparently the album Abbey Road will be re-released on Friday...

What we should also have is a re-screening of the film accompanying the whole album which was shown on BBCTV on the release date of the original Abbey Road album.

I well remember watching it. It featured photo montages, videos of members of the band, of all the songs and an amazing specially produced cartoon for Maxwell`s Silver Hammer [ and is referred to in Mark Lewisohn`s iconic reference work on the Beatles recordings].

The BBC Abbey Road album film has never been shown since.

Come on Beeb, get your finger out and sort it - pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.

I think we need to keep a close eye on BBC 4, as that's the channel usually showing concerts and music.

As it was the opening sequence on ITV's This Morning, I can't see the BBC missing a chance of showing it.

I know they are doing the 4 days on Radio 2 but think there is a lot more they can do....

That's one I've seen may many times but no less enjoyable seeing it again so cheers for that @Mi-Amigo although it is quite a poignant video too. It's one that makes us think about our own mortality.

A bit of detective work and I have found a bit more information on the Abbey Road film.

A post on youtube reproduces comment from Rowan Myers for BBC Line-up in 1969 along with repro of graphics used for Maxwell`s Silver Hammer.

Youtube also has a very very brief part [4 secs] of film for Come Together:

The BBC, allegedly, claim the original Late Night Line Up Abbey Road film no longer exists.

Four of the letter from the street sign on the back cover of the Abbey Road album were sold on Ch4 TV show Four Rooms for £7000

4 Abbey Road letters fetched £7000

Four original tiles from the Abbey Road sign in London, as featured on the back cover of the album Abbey Road were for sale on the TV show "Four rooms" on Channel 4 in the UK recently.

Seller Anne lived in a flat opposite the Abbey Road sign and when she discovered that the wall with the sign on was to be demolished, she rescued what tiles she could and her father glued them back together. Anne managed to rescue just four tiles A, B, E and Y. During the show, the tiles were sold to Andrew Lamberty for £7000.
He is now in the process of getting them authenticated. If he is successful, he has plans to put them in a presentation case and hopes to sell the letters for around £ 16 000 a piece.

There's big money to be made in pop nostalgia. Autographs of the Beatles also make big money depending what they are written on and can be authenticated.

The VW Beetle on the front cover of Abbey Road was bought by Peter Gent, a St Albans music shop owner, in 1986 for £2,500. It was later sold for $23,000 and is on display at official VW museum in Germany.

The police van, on the right of the front cover, licence plate SYD 724 F, appears on the licence plate of the Rolls Royce falling into the swimming pool on the front cover of the Oasis album Be Here Now in 1997.

Oasis were very much influenced by the Beatles in their early years. Liam definitely took his singing style into the microphone from John Lennon.

Was listening to it in the car earlier, The Beatles Hour at 18:30ish. And heard Zoe Ball talking to Sir Paul at 08:10ish this morn. And somebody playing Lady Madonna on the piano yesterday, I think, at about 07:40.
