Old Western recommendations

I did grow up being really into sci-fi and although I enjoyed films like Blade Runner 2049 (and the original of course) as stuff featured in sci-fi has started to come into existence more and more and because I spend all day troubleshooting problems with PCs, Macs and smart devices I've started to lose interest in the sci-fi genre.

Last year when I was off from work for Christmas I noticed The Good, The Bad and The Ugly as well as a Fistful of Dollars and For a few dollars more were on NowTV on demand so over the course of three days I sat and watched each and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Also started to watch Hang 'em high but had to break off and it disappeared before I could finish it.

Anyway, any suggestions for Westerns I should watch (and I don't just mean the Spaghetti ones)?

I may be back with some more but being bad on titles, like names, I'll google them first to ensure I give them to you correctly.

By the way my faves from above, which I've seen more then once, are Liberty Valance and Bad Day at Black Rock, both are excellent.

The Long Riders

Johnny Guitar was a unique 50s western as it was female (Joan Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge), not male driven . Don't let that put you off, it's a brilliant film.

And the Long Riders was about the Jesse James gang made up of sets of brothers. And the film actually starred 3 sets of brothers as members of the gang: James and Stacey Keach; David, Keith and Robert Carradine and Christopher and Nicholas Guest.

I don't think I need to explain the first film as the title is self-explanatory

I hope one of my suggestions is to your taste. Oh, and I should add I'm not a big westerns fan anymore. Watched way too many western TV shows as a kid!

@Anonymous As you seem to like Clint Eastwood, I'd also recommend 'Unforgiven', and also the classic John Ford film 'Stagecoach', which was John Wayne's breakthrough film.

I think I must be the only person who doesn't like Westerns

In fact the only one I have watched more than once is The Lone Ranger.

That's because it had Johnny Depp in it.

(As it was released in 2013 it's hardly classed as old)

I really am not a fan of westerns either @Cleoriff. As I say I overindulged as a child with all the westerns on TV. However, the ones I have listed are exceptions that I've thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation recommending. Love the original Magnificent 7 too which I actually own as well as Once Upon a Time in the West. The only westerns I own.

Absolutely @Bambino and every other western, ABC, in particular, showed. My dad was a big westerns fan and I don't think there was a western on the telly we didn't watch. I had my fill and now it's only certain westerns I can bear.

And I have watched Blazing Saddles numerous times and still scream with laughter even though I know what's coming next.

Having said that I'm rather partial to Dances With Wolves. Not an oldie, made in the '80s I believe. I own the film which I forgot, so I actually have 3 westerns in my film collection. Sorry I totally forgot about this film. I have the extended version which runs about 3 1/2-4 hours. You have to really like a film to sit for that long and I admit that I have no problem with its length and I've sat through it loads of times.
