Improve Your Posting Skills

Let me start by saying that the links below are for everyone. They are not aimed at any one, or any group in particular, and is not intended to offend anyone. This is a pet peeve, and I have probably mentioned it in the past. Sometimes I will see a post and it's so long and complicated and unintelligible that I cannot get to the end of the post. There are many who post here whose first language is not English, and I have no problem with that at all, but there are also many native English speakers who will benefit from this as well.

The links below will help you with spelling, grammar, and punctuation. It's a really useful tool. Once installed on your computer or device, you will see a marked difference. It will help both the writer and the reader. I think I've covered all the platforms, but feel free to add any that I may have missed.

Hello @Bambino ... You are a well respected member of the O2 Community & I personally 'Like Your Style' & as said respect you

I have the following to say ... = ... I've seen the adverts for 'Grammarly' on the internet & indeed I had a traditional Grammar school education ... I'd like to think I can get my message across in my own way, using my own 'English language skills' ... bearing in mind I acheived 9 out of 10 for my GCE 'O' level, when 1 was the top & 6 was the lowest pass

No offence taken in your thread ... & ... no offence to anyone intended here in my post

With me, it's 3 words or 33, lolz ... your succinct & to the point way of expressing yourself is to be admired

Looks like they've added British English support, last time I tested, they hadn't.

I've just got used to using Swype! But yes, anything that helps. The biggest problem today is that many people have been brought up with a PC based education and the 'written' word is rarely used.

One of the more annoying things MS Word did was introduce the sentence (grammar) checker after a spell check. Always - and still does - gave a suggestion that was the wrong context and changed the way the sentence flowed. Its quite aggrevating when it doesn't understand that technical writing is not exactly defined by grammatical correctness. The changes suggested actually make it worse to read!

I'm writing on a MacBook Air. Everything changes around on this keyboard Honest.

Though since I mentioned squiggly underlines, I'm curious to know how would you highlight emphasis on errors since we now have multiple methods to do it electronically? For example, taking my spelling mistake, what seems better in a readability sense:

a) Oh, and it's aggravating ...

b) Oh, and it's aggravating ...

c) Oh, and it's "aggravating"...

d) Oh, and it's aggravating ...

e) A spelling emoticon/emoji

Personally I don't wish to communicate using 'The Queen's English'

If I can get my message across & it's easily readable & understood I'm happy with that

However, my personal bugbear is 'i c u' ... = ... I see you ...

Hello @Bambino, this thread is thought provoking ... ... ...

My son Alex was diagnosed with dyslexia in his 20's

At secondary school he had special permission to submit his homework on hard copy done on his pc

He once dictated a comprehension on the North American Natives to me & I typed it up on his pc ... printed off ... handed in to school by the lad next day

I offered to get him a dictation machine from work but he said no

The Spellcheck facility helped him greatly

He is one who thought envelope should begin with the letter 'n' ... ie in slang terms 'he thinks outside the box'

He now composes etc his own letters for work & has not been sent on any course for his job in computers

He has been down to Bristol to take a course, I was overjoyed that the company had finally sent him on a course ... No mum, he said over the phone, He Conducted The Course

Stress is the 21st Century Illness causing Much Mental Distresss

@Bambino will know I value whatever he says & however he says it :smileywink:

I feel a serious apology to @Bambino is in order ... In his original post ... this is his thread, he has stated that his post is not aimed at anyone in particular ... I feel I've had a bit of a Rant ... & now wish to make good

In my life on & off the laptop / mobile phone the people I like, well generally don't like me or I end up P$$ing them off, if I'm not making too much importance of myself ... dunno how I do it ... = ... Just Jane being a Pain Again

I once fancied the pants off @Bambino ... it's a term of endearment

I'm probablyTHAT *BLEEPY* WOMAN in some people's eyes
