You're confusing the free allowance you get with the traditional tariffs (where you got to keep your top-up). With the new simplicity tariffs, which work more like a bolt-on.
To use your example, to get unlimited free texts on Text and Web you would need to top-up £30 in a month.
To buy unlimited texts on the Simplicity tariff costs £5.

Hi,

I was wondering if I could get some clarification on the following three questions;

1. £5 top-up gives one unlimited text; does this mean cross-network?

2. If someone topsup a certain amount; will this amount be converted to credits? Or will this money be only converted to text/calls?

3. Is it easy to switch back and forth (on pay as you go)? I heard by text is the easiest way.

Many Thanks!

Pay and Go Simplicity is bought out of your credit once a month. You can change tariff once a month.

The unlimited texts are cross network.
Any top up is normal credit from which your £5 is debited once a month. Any remaining credit left is yours to do with as you wish ie calls or web use.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

So let's say I got £0 credit today, I go to the shop and get a £5 voucher and top up... will I get unlimted text (cross-network) AND the £5 as normal credit which I can use during the month for phone calls? Or will I get unlimited text but £0 credit remaining...

I hope I'm making sense.. I just need to make sure sorry..

You can't get a £5 voucher. Top up £10 and £5 is debited for your tariff, leaving £5 to do with as you wish. How can you expect unlimited texts to be free??

What do you mean? It's always been 'free'... I used to top up £10 and I used to get unlimited 02 texts the whole month, PLUS the £10 (I toped up with) stayed as credit in my phone which I used for phone calls... Do you call this free?

He would have been on the O2 Unlimited tariff which gave 12,000 free texts to O2 customers every month you topped up £10.
It sounds like he's changed to the £5 simplicity tariff, which deducts £5 from your credit once a month to buy unlimited texts to all UK networks.

Sorry, that's what I understood from the following;

"To use your example, to get unlimited free texts on Text and Web you would need to top-up £30 in a month.
To buy unlimited texts on the Simplicity tariff costs £5."

- I thought you have to topup £30 and each month £5 will be taken off... I was wrong.

But anyways I've taken up enough of your time, it's all clear now, thanks 2 all.

If you read the whole of that post you will see I was comparing your old tariff(where you needed to top-up £30 to get a free allowance of unlimited texts) with your Simplicity tariff (where texts costs £5).

Nowhere do I say you need to make an initial top-up.
