Another plea to the moderators!!

Just got home from work @ 7.40am and a quick browse on the forum found 13 spam posts. No doubt there will be many more later this morning. This is now beyond a joke!
Can we please put a system in place whereby a 1st post will not appear on a thread until it has been vetted by the moderators. This has been going on for months and months but is now bordering on the ridiculous.
Please, please sort it out.

Agree, I've been quiet lately as there is just too much Cyrillic and Chinese text or long rambling nonsense posts to wade past

Yep, as a mod of the old 3G forum we could get over 1000 spam messages a day.
Our Church website even gets spam comments.

Nice one Adam, it's about time they acknowledged the problem. But they need to do more than just look at it, they need to take positive action.
A big step forward would be to scrutinise first-time posts. At the moment it is far too easy to join and to start spamming straight away.
This morning was particularly bad and they must think the O2 forum is an easy and lucrative source to peddle their wares.

What is their Twitter name? Seems only fair if they can mod and message us we should be able to contact them! It is getting silly especially the long random rubish recently.

The difference is that the moderation contractor that O2 employ desires anonymity whereas Camelot don't
Just by mentioning their company name in a post will attract the delete button, but to also mention an email address........ :mansurprised: :mansurprised: :mansurprised:

I don't think the anonymity thing is general just that whenever the company name/url/email address is mentioned on this forum it doesn't stay for long.

I'm copying in the Senior Account Manager who looks after the O2 Forums so we can tidy up the latest batch of spam.
The technical platform has various limitations but I'll let Paul get back to you on that after speaking with O2.

Many thanks for your email, which Tamara has passed to me. Just so you know, I have copied it through to our opposite numbers at O2.
Spam is an issue on the O2 forums - it's an attractive target - and part of the remit for the moderators is to remove all such spam as soon as it is reviewed.
On your specific idea, I'll leave that to O2 to come back to in detail, though my suspicion is that they would consider it a barrier to participation for all genuine first time users, who come to the forums hoping to solve a specific problem promptly.
I personally think more could be done with filters and other software approaches, and that is something O2 are examining as part of their plans for the forum.
