I've finally been able to speak to someone at O2 who understands and has access to the Boostbox system.

They confirmed that all existing Boostbox units will stop working in December 2025 due to the 3G shutdown, this includes the (rare) dual band units that already have 4G because the whole current platform is being made obsolete.

The better news is that a new system and new equipment is being launched, so it's not the end for Boostboxes, details are due to be released in the next 2 weeks.

That's all I know!

I'm slightly annoyed that when I purchased my current Boostbox 3 years ago I was told it was future proof because it was the 4G version..

Hope this is useful to some.

Guy

Thanks for this.

Did you get the promised update by any chance? Where can I get the new equipment and when?

I don't really understand why O2 getting rid of 3G means my Boostbox, connected by internet not 3G, needs to stop working? 3G shutdown doesn't make sense as and excuse - unless anyone can explain it to me?

Anyway, mine is down I think and I received no warning, so any help would be great please.

Regards,

Julian

I think you are the third on here in the last day or so regarding a boost box

As explained by

@japitts

The "boostboxes" connect back to O2's core network using your home broadband, but they're not so much "boosters" as 3G microcells.

Thus with the 3G network retired, they are now obsolete.
