I had an advisor call me from O2 26/11/2024 telling me they could put me on a Sim only contract which would bring my monthly bills down to £20 per month plus whatever i was currently paying on my device plan. I reoeatedly asked the advisor if i coiuld cancel the contract at any time without any ETC charges and he reassured me multiple times that i could do this. I decided to cancel in dec as i found a cheaper sim only deal on the O2 website. i have now recieved an email stating that O2 are going to take £424.13 from my bank acct on or after 14/01/2025. First of your advisor lied to me so he could clearly get a sale and secondly you WON'T be taking that money from my acct as i don't have it. i've tried to call your call centre today and their systems are down. The calls are recorded for training and monitoring purposes as you always state so when i do manage to get through to an advisor i want the call listened to as he lied to me. if i'd known i'd get an early termination charge i obviously wouldn't have agreed to switch to a sim only plan when i did

When O2 allegedly called you @meljay1985, had you instigated the call ; or was it a "cold" call that you were not expecting ?

If the latter, it is likely not from O2 but might have been from one of their "trusted partners".

£20/mo, plus "whatever you are currently paying on your device plan" sounds suspect, @meljay1985 - the discounts offered on direct calls from people "claiming" to be from O2 are all covered in this (expand the "More" link) Community guide: <LI-PRODUCT title="Phishing, Smishing & Scams. Latest info & advice." id="Guide083"></LI-PRODUCT>

The £424.13 termination figure (which you could find out by Texting the word "INFO" to 85075 is a free way to get an estimate of any charges or credit for your O2 account. This includes checking if you'll be charged an exit fee when leaving your mobile contract) sounds like you were given a new device plan, tbh - unless you were in the 3rd year of a 36-month contract with a top-range handset.

And, as a note, you can get a better deal on SIMO from sites like Uswitch, £8/mo for 12months with 40GB of data and unlimited calls/texts (25GB of data per month for first 63 days if you are roaming in Europe).

Good luck with the calls to O2 to get the recording of your sales call (made from a caller purporting to be O2 to you, note!) @meljay1985
