topic Possible new scam in Discussions & Feedback

Morning all.

Thought I would post this as it's a new one (to me) and seems an escalation to the lengths that scammers are going to steal our details.

This was posted on the Book of Face, so it's accuracy is up for debate but rather waste some time posting than see someone fall prey to this...

Someone received a new bank card supposedly from their bank, but their current one still had several months to run.

It was attached to a normal seeming letter (letterhead, contact details, etc).

Critical point was the card was not contactless, and the recipient wanted a contactless one so went to her bank (was Santander).

Bank advised it was not sent by them and pleased she went to see them about it as calling to activate could have given her details to them! Fraud squad has now been involved.

Bank has now ordered a new card and all security details have been changed.

As we always say, please check separately anything you are given.

Accept nothing from a cold call - especially if you have not requested anything recently.

And if it seems too good to be true it probably is!
