O2 and Femtocell technology

All, has anyone (including O2) got any news of Femtocells (the little devices you use in the home to boost the signal)?

O2 trialled these a while ago and then, nothing. Vodafone have them but the signal in my area is rubbish so I REALLY need one.

If an O2 person is looking in - can you tell us when an annoucement will take place so I can set my mind at rest. Otherwise, I'll just have to go to Vodafone.

Looking at the posts here, a lot of customers really need this booster to get a decent signal - O2 what have you got to help us in rural areas?

O2 have said they have no intention to introduce these at the moment due to technical problems with these devices.

But that doesn't mean they work very well. Vodafone have had dreadfull problems. Have a look on the Vodafone forums to see the issues people are facing.
This is the reason that none of the other networks have taken them on.

Thanks for your reply, I raised the topic again becuase some of the discussions in the posts indicated above were around a year old.

I am in touch with the O2 network team - lets see if there is any solution. We live 5 miles from the centre of Norwich so you would think that we would be in full coverage - but no.

I believe there are some retailers selling a similar device for about £250, but I have no idea how good they are.

Then those retailers are helping you break the law.
I can't remember the specifics but there is something about running an unlicenced repeater. A quick ggl found this...

It's the last paragraph about Cellular enhancers / boosters / repeaters.

Maybe you'll get lucky and O2 get around to upgrading the masts in that area at some point. They upgraded my mast in the last couple of weeks. I always had 2-3 bars and G data in the house, now I get full 5 bars and 3G/H data.
