Google Play battery drain

So anyone else noticed Google Play app using a large amount of battery even when you havent updated/installed any apps? Appears the latest Store update caused a battery drain issue with many on Reddit complaining about it. Google are apparently aware and will fix it, but you can temporary fix it yourself by disabling the app from running

Not the first time Google Play has been implicated in excessive battery drain... Not noticed it on my 6T yet.
Interesting article.
One wonders, with Tracking/Tracing apps being a hot topic, if Google haven't tried to tweak something for that initiative... The NHS Covid-19 Tracking App and various flavours of Android behave, at times, in unexpected ways.
