Can somebody tell me how to or point me in the right direction of how to do those funny little animated yellow characters on the bottom of many posts on this forum?

Do you men's the emoticons.

If so you need to be on the 'full' desktop version in iPhones. Android phones allow the full use of the rich editor.

Look at he top row of tabs where the smiley face 😄 is and when you hit it it will say 'insert emoticon' all the available ones will pop up.

Or if using a laptop as I do...its exactly the same as stated and will show something like these......

They are close I agree. This is the default Lithium navigation bar structure, but I will look whether there are options to alter it.
