My Samsung S6 is a lovely phone but twice now, the phone becomes extremely hot and freezes! I have to wait for the battery to run out, which even with a full battery only takes a few hours. What is going on and can I do anything to stop this happening?

I guess an app is holding the processor on and running it at full power constantly.
Did you install or update an app at the same time that this started happening?
You can boot into safe mode which shuts off all 3rd party apps and just runs the stock system so if it doesn't do it then, it's definitely an app causing it.
http://gadgetguideonline.com/galaxys6/samsung-galaxy-s6-guides/how-to-use-samsung-galaxy-s6-safe-mode/
