Hi i used to use google hangouts for my txts, it became laggy on the keyboard after the update, now every so often on the samsung s6 default txting app "messages" if i write a semi long txt and even add an emoji in there it converts it to mms... then i get charged 33p 😕 is there anyway of stopping this? I have already looked in settings and set the sms settings to restricted but that doesn't seem to help? The weird thing is i could write pretty much unlimted txts on hangouts and never get charged but the keyboard has become laggy after the app got updated...

Hi @Anonymous

Everything you need to know about MMS and how to avoid sending them in this guide

http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Other-Products-Services/Accidental-MMS-Sending-and-How-to-Avoid-it/td-p/689503

To be honest I never send MMS now I use Messenger or Whatsapp for sending pictures over WiFi

Incidentally I did my own research on my Note 3 The first emoji takes 90+ characters. Every one thereafter takes 1 or 2 characters... Very expensive

My advice would mirror @Cleoriff and @Bambino.
Using a 3rd party app and / or using a 3rd party keyboard.

But I believe the mms setting for stopping it is.
Open messages, tap "more" in top right, select settings, select more settings, select restrictions, set to restricted.

You can't stop it converting (other than writing shorter texts) but you can set it to warn you - just keep an eye on the screen for the pop up to appear.
