I had my samsung s3 in my coat pocket hanging over my chair and when I have gone to look at it (maybe 2hours later) the front screen is broken and the phone was incredibly hot, could it overheating caused the screen to crack as I didn't drop it?

Any idea how much this will be to replace or should it be covered as it is faulty?

Overheating can cause screen cracking....
Trouble I assume you will have is proving it !
You'd be best off talking to Samsung directly and see if they are amicable to your request for a free repair.
O2 will refuse to repair it for free, for sure

Yes you are right - I took it into an O2 store and the guy told me it looked as though it had been cause by pressure being applied (even though I told him what happened) and it would be £130 to repair. I wouldn't mind paying it if I had caused the problem.
I then went onto O2 online chat and was basically told the same thing. I was going to try taking it to a Samsung store but I don't know of any?
I might try and contact them online or maybe try and fix it myself as I can't afford £130 😞

I wouldn't recommend trying to repair it yourself, if you do something catastrophic, you'll probably invalidate your manufacturer's warranty and end up paying even more.

A load of high street establishments will probably repair a cracked screen for around £50.
