I just upgraded my samsung galaxy y to a galaxy young as the built in memory was poor in my old phone and the new model has 4gb

but after using the galaxy young for just a short time I have found out that this phone is useless it has more internal memory than my old phone but will not allow you to store apps on the external sd card so that's back to the same problem at least my old phone you can send most apps to the sd card but found that just a few apps cannot be sent to the card so hoped that this will solve the problem but only option is to use the 4gb inbuilt memory and not the 16gb external sd card I had so I have bought a phone from a o2 shop that is of no use to me at all there was no mention of this on the o2 website I looked at before going to my local o2 shop and no mention of this when I bought it

You cannot store apps on SD cards on Android phones running Android Jelly Bean unless the phone is rooted. This is not an O2 problem. This policy comes from Android. It wouldn't make any difference which network you bought the phone from.

You can return it within 7 working days of buying it.

Just take it all back to the O2 Shop you visited.

On your next choice perhaps look for something with at least 16gb of internal Memory dependant on your needs , not via external sd cards.

The minimum you should buy is a phone with 8gb of internal storage if you want to download many apps.
The cheap phones are just designed for basic use - that's why they are cheap!

It was claimed to have 4GB but only shows 1.6GB this is of no use so will be taking it back

I dont blame you sending the handset back.

My partners exact same model is on its way back to O2 also.

4Gb is the total disc space which also carries the OS and system partitions, hence the measly 1.6Gb available.
Morale - Don't buy cheap phones if you want more than the basics.....
