As this is an old slide type phone not an option to turn off but what you can do in settings is goto Settings > browser settings and edit the current profiles gprs settings, putting an extra character in the apn or login id so cant connect to internet or selecting a non o2 profile if shows one to prevent accidental connection

Hi.

I believe their should be a pop up warning from O2 advising the owner that the phone is about to connect to the internet which may instigate a charge. We are getting so many threads appear just like yours about being charged £1 for accessing the internet , which is normally done by one or more apps refreshing in the background without the owner even knowing.

Have you thought about a tariff that included a small bundle of data. You may find its on par or not much more that your paying now. That's if you'd like to start using O2's internet.

Take care.

TheFlintstone is correct whereby the access points have to be disabled to prevent using data. A data tariff such as text and web or go go go need a monthly top otherwise data is still charged daily. It would depend how much the OP normally tops up as to whether changing tariff is a viable option.

Another option would be to ask customer service to deprovision data on the account.

Hi Wufer ,

Well I hope you enjoy your new shiny phone and please have a good think about the previous advice of intentionally adjusting the settings or turning off mobile data to stop this in the future.

Or if you want to enjoy the phones full uses think of a tariff with a modest data allowance in it. These new phones cry out to be used on the net !

I have seen posts on various forums where the user has politely explained to Customer Services that they were not aware of these charges etc ,and as a one off have had the credit returned when they have checked actual typical data use by the customer.

O2 haven't taken anything that they shouldn't of done but in the spirit of Customer Service may return the credit.

Take care.
