You won't get 2G any faster but you will get a better signal on 2G if you are in a weak 3G area.

Another simple question from a new Galaxy Y user:

GPRS - EDGE - UMTS: what are the different speeds etc?

I can get EDGE and GPRS depending on where I am, Not yet seen UMTS.

This forum has been a GREAT help with my new phone, Thanks.

Brian

There is a good explanation here from Darrengf:

https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-and-Pay-Go/What-is-2G-3G-and-4G/m-p/286204#U286204

And this about coverage from Adamtemp64:

https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-and-Pay-Go/Do-you-have-poor-coverage-signal-Indoors-This-may-help-Explain/m-p/382428#M36891

OK, thanks that's very helpful.

One reply suggested turning off 3g on my phone as this will help speed up 2g, if I read it right. Is that the case?
