OK. Do you think that may be the reason that the websites can't give me a code? Because O2 don't know the phone exists and therefore can't give them a code?

Aside from that, does anyone know whether or not O2 are unlocking the One X+ yet?

And finally: Which SIM should I get? Is there one I can ask for that is literally just like an old-school PAYG SIM where you just put money on there and it takes little bits of that money for calls and texts? Or do I have to go with one of these plans? I've been on contract for so long I'm out of the loop. I'd literally only be using it to text and call a few times to register the IMEI, so I don't want to over-complicate matters...

Hi guys,

Recently bought a One X+ from eBay, brand new, sealed, unwanted contract upgrade from O2. I use a different network, and I'm sure you can all see where this is going...

I've tried all the usual avenues, 3 different websites who all took an age to eventually tell me they couldn't help. I spoke to an O2 "guru" online who told me to go to a store, who told me to go online.

Is my best option going to be grabbing a PAYG SIM and slinging £20 on there to register that number with the IMEI and then using the standard form? Or does anyone know a of a better/cheaper way or a reason not to do this?

Thanks in advance.

How old is te phone? If it's P&G it needs to have been on the network for 12 months before O2 will unlock it. As far as I know, only iphones (not the 5) are exempt from this.

2 weeks, tops...

I thought it was the other way round, that pay-monthly phones had to be 12months+ and PAYG didn't... Or at least that what I'd gathered by trawling the forums here.

No, pay monthly can be unlocked anytime.

The argument is that a P&G is normally sudsidised so O2 want to make the money on calls etc for 12 months before the phone is used on another network.

Pay monthly of course, O2 are guarenteed proceeds from the monthly tariff.
