new sim / old number

I have just changed my phone to a Nokia Lumia 620 , i contacted o2 and asked them to put my old number on to my new sim card , which they did .

The trouble is my phone shows the new number , yet when i call my phone with my old number it rings plus shows the correct blance .

ANY HELP ?

I am confused by your question. Sorry.

Can you clarify? How have you called your new phone using your old number?

The phone (in settings) will show the number written to the sim, which isn't necessarily the actual phone number of the sim. You say you call your old number and the phone rings, so this is good, as the number port is complete. So it's just the balance question I'm not sure about?

If you don't want the new number to show then visit an O2 store and pick up a blank SIM card for your account type and perform the sim swap again or ask the shop to do it.

Just got back from my local store in Gloucester only to be told it was not possible to put my old number on a blank sim card , a waste of time money and petrol , what a joke .

If your telephone number is still active then a simswap moves it from one sim card to another along with the applied tariff.

What reason did they give you ?

You need to put your sim in a phone that allows the number to be written to it, like an old Nokia, Blackberry, iPhone etc.
Once you do this and overwrite the sim number with your actual phone number it will show correct on your new phone.
This is easily done by any phone shop if you don't have a suitable old phone lying around.

Hmmm.

Did you pick up an account specific blank sim card anyway to do the swap at home ?

So if they were right that it couldnt be done what happens if you ever change your phone again via upgrade or purchase ,and need a different sized sim card to fit into it !

bob, I think you are getting confused....
The OP has had his actual phone number transferred to a new sim, but now wants his phone number to show in "about phone" (currently showing a different number that the sim was originally allocated with).
To do this they need to do as I have said above and manually write the number using a phone that will allow it to be done.
This does not have any affect on phone operation and is just a "reminder" function of the account phone number.

Note to "fellowes" - Trust me, it is possible to do......

Ah right ok.

I read the op post wrong then.

They talked about a blank sim card in that post.

So if the OP does not have a Nokia phone for example in order to "write" his own number over the pre loaded mobile number onto it ,and instead wants just to pick up a blank sim card to transfer their number and tariff to the blank sim card via the swapmysim process, i'm confused as to why the O2 shop would say its not possible.

Sorry Buddy that sounded like i was ranting at you but i was not.

Just annoys me when someone has made the journey to a shop to sort this out and the customer walks away with duff information.

Its their job to iron out a customers confusion or problem if they can.

Presumablly their system wouldn't allow it because the OP has had a recent sim swap already. It will come up saying not allowed in store.

I agree with MI5, totally on the right track with this one.

With all due respect, I think theses two have done their darn hardest to try to help given the lack of information they've been provided with. They are not employees of O2 and are doing this off their own back, a little gratitude would be more on par for a responce.
