Lumia 800 when a sms turns into a mms

When does a text turn into mms, just had a bill for 15 media messages which i haven't sent so i rang CS who tell me they were all sent at exactly the same time. This was sent as a text without any media in it. The problem CS say is because facebook contacts are linked to phone contacts ! and to stop it happening again i must unlink the contacts. trouble is at least 3 on the list dont even have facebook accounts. Im told its not a billing issue but a facebook issue so its chargeable. i Dont mind paying for media messages but his is just wrong.

All modern smartphones convert group text messages to MMS messages. Keep the groups to less than 5 people and you should be OK but check the phone screen as it will normally change from SMS to MMS.

I have a monthly contract with O2 they texted me and asked about all the problems I have had when I started to tell them the text went into a mms, that was only to them will they charge me?

What number did you send it to?
Check in your "My O2" and it will tell you if charged.
