I have a very old but perfectly formed/serviceable O2 XDA Ignito which I used to synchronise with my Outlook contacts on my now departed XP laptop using ActiveSync.

I am conscious that my Ignito is getting on a bit and might need replacement but I'm anxious to save any number of txt messages sent, received and saved on it for posterity.

I have no idea how to do this but I do know that MS, in it's wisdom, has not produced a version of ActiveSync which is compatible with my current Windows 7 laptop; I've also tried connecting it as a USB hard drive but am unable to identify a file where the the txs are stored which could simply be copied to my HDD.

I also recognise that my Ignito is probably not running the latest MS mobile software and would be grateful for any help in learning how to upgrade but don't want to attempt an upgrade until I've got the precious txt messages somewhere safe.

Thanks for any time and help you can offer.

Pete

If you can find it around, I used PPCPimBackup before which took all my select items as backup e.g. contact, sms, task etc. In the options, untick the options to compress and then you can open the saved file up in winzip. However you can view most of the items as a CSV file (import to Excel). Its not perfect but it works.

Just tried it after a long while and I can confirm that the sms & contacts are importable to Excel providing you change the extension to a .txt file and set up the delimiter as a semicolon. As before, its not quite perfect but at least you have a copy.
