O2 Insurance

I have been paying £15 insurance fee to O2 Insurance for almost 3 years. Now my phone (iPhone 4s) is lost and I claimed new phone. They are asking me to pay £150 !!!!!
Why ? Sounds not fair.
I'm an O2 customer for 7 years, using the same number for 6 years.
As a business , any idea about loyalty ??!!!

I understand where you are coming from but unfortunately that's the excess that they charge personally there are much cheaper insurance options out there than O2

Hardly worth it with the excess and paying premiums of £15. There are cheaper options out there but any insurance is only has good as the claims process.

Hi

When you accepted O2 insurance you did accept the T&C along with the excess fees.

Have you checked any home contents cover or current bank account cover. My son recently claimed through his Halifax bank cover, paid £50 excess and received a new iPhone 5c as he accidentally dropped his and smashed the screen.

Edit. £150 seems reasonable to what the cost of what an iPhone 4s would cost you if you were paying outright for one.

From Apple new is £349 for the 8gb.
Refurb from Apple is £399 for the 16gb.
Second hand from CEX is £195 for the 16gb.

Unfortunately a lot of insurance companies charge more excess for apple phones I have it with my bank and the excess on an iphone is 50 and all others 25 doesn't really seem fair when some others can cost the same

I assume as they are asking for £150 this is not your 1st claim ?

I assume you've already stopped your SIM card with O2 to stop anyone finding your phone using it to rack up call charges.

Have you logged into findmyiphone and wiped/locked the iPhone too.

This my first ever claim.
Unfortunately I didn't try apps to find my phone , and it's blocked already .

Your first claim and it's £150 excess ! Wow.

Why so much even Tho I said that's less than paying outright for one.

Monthly price

Excess

£3 – £4.50 - £20
£6 – £7.50 - £30
£10 - £50
£12.50 - £60*

The policy is dependent on the value of your handset

* £60, or £120 for second and any subsequent loss claim

O2 will have blocked the imei of the iPhone so that's fair enough.

That does sound excessive for iPhone 4s.

Have you double checked on your original insurance policy to see what the excess was stated as when you took it out?

I had an iPhone 4s at about the same time but don't remember the excess being that high.

I don't remember the insurance ever being £15 either I'm sure it used to be £12.50

So you've paid out £540 in insurance premiums and have to add another £150 excess.....
This is exactly why I put money away myself and "self insure".
You could buy a brand new iP5s for what you've paid out in premiums..... 😞

I will say here that when I bought my S3 through a brilliant O2 CS...she advised me against O2 insurance.

Her words were 'The excess is far too much and so are the premiums...there are far cheaper policies if you compare online'....

I did all that, then went with my Building Society who give me free annual travel insurance ....:smileywink:

I've just checked and I was paying £12.50 for my iPhone 4s (well I was reimbursed so not really me :smileywink:)

but maybe it was different for abusiness user?

I used to pay £45/ 24 month /1200minutes call , as my tarrif . Plus £15 O2 insurance .
A few month after my 24 month contract expired I changed my tarrif to cheaper one, but I kept my insurance as it was.
Now I am trying to find a copy of my insurance paper.
The thing is I paid too much and I feel I was just stupid to stay with O2 for that long. It's not about paying some extra money , it is about my feeling , I feel insurance and O2 don't care customers, they are just cheaters.

@Anonymous Just cancel your O2 policy (after you have searched for a cheaper insurance)

You wont get a refund from O2 but you will have a cheaper monthly bill

Personally I tend not to insure as I am generally sensible with my phone and I take the view that if I lost or broke it I would buy a replacement outright sim free using the monies I saved by not having insurance ☺
