1GB data bolt-on no longer available

I use my phone mainly for internet with about 30 minutes of calls and maybe 50 texts. I have been on O2 50 with a 1GB data bolt-on and this was perfect for me. Three days days ago I upgraded my phone but stayed on the same tariff (O2 50). I have now been told that the 1GB bolt-on is not allowed with this tariff and I have to pay for a unlimited calls and texts at £29 per month to get 1GB data. Does this sound right or am I being scammed by an O2 guru?

If you upgrade your phone you will usually move on to a new tariff. Some tariffs are no longer available. Speak to customer service for more clarification on 202. Don't use webchat.

I was on the o2 50 tariff before the upgrade and the o2 50 tariff after it.

Customer services have confirmed that if I return the phone they can cancel the upgrade, put be back on my old tariff and restore the bolt on.

I have just returned my phone and once they have confirmed the upgrade has been cancelled I will change provider. I have spoken to two customer services reps today and neither seemed at all concerned to be losing a customer of 15 years.

Shame really.

I don't think you were told that as upgrading would have moved you to a new tariff.

Cancelling the new tariff doesn't always mean you can return to your old one, unless it's still current.

That will always be a problem, every time you upgrade you will be moved to a current tariff.

That is the way it's always worked, you cannot upgrade and stay on an old tariff that is no longer being sold.

Maybe O2 should change the name of the tariff when they change the conditions.

Maybe they should let you know when you upgrade which bolt-ons are not compatible.

Maybe they should care that a customer is leaving.

May I expect too much!

You can only have any bolt ons that apply to the tariff you move to.

I have stayed on the same contract for five years as I have unlimited internet and if I upgrade I will lose it.

Sounds about right. The best option if you want to upgrade seems to be to ditch O2.

I've only had three new phones in the last 11 years and I tend to put a bit of money away to cover the cost.

Old fashioned I know but it works for me.

PAC acquired.

Provider swapped.

Customer services completely understood why I wanted to leave and didn't waste my time with the old 'let me see what I can do' shtick.
