Help setting up phone for New York travel

Can anyone help, my daughter is travelling to New York and I need to know how best to set up her phone. What do I need to do and how best to keep the costs down.

Depending on the model of phone.

But Turn Data roaming off

And turn cell / modile data off

Disable the voice mail 1760

Only use free wifi for data access

If the phone allows it and on pay monthly look at tugo app and again only use when in range of free wifi. ( calls using uk mins )

Make sure her phone is unlocked before she travels, if it isn't already. If she's going to be making local calls within the US, her best bet is to get a local Pay and Go sim from AT&T or T-Mobile. It will be much cheaper than using her O2 sim.
