new phone not picking up old sim card

i am on sim only pay monthly.my current phone is not that upto date so i have just bought a sony xperia lay but it wont pick up my old sim card.it just says no service and when i go to transfer contacts it says no contacts on sim but there is.do i need to get a more upto date sim for this phone as mine is over 2 years old.thanks

It appears so billy, the SIM you have, may not carry the voltage required from the new handset. You might be best just popping into an O2 shop to get it checked out.

Certainly worth replacing the sim - you can either pop in to your local store or order online, in store is done on the spot and they will sort the sim-swap there and then, so you should be up and running in less than an hour
