Sending SMS and getting charged for MMS

Hi
Has anybody else had the problem of being charged for MMS messages when sending an SMS? Recently had my phone bill and sent a 'Happy xmas' and 'Happy new year' message as a group message on my Iphone 5 but i have been charged 21p for each message! The message had no pictures or emocians, just a simple text. Phoned o2 who are trying to place the blame on me for sending an MMS but i know for definate it wasnt!! Anyone else had the same problem??

Quite a few people had the same problem especially over Christmas and New Year.

this is being discussed at length in the ios section http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Apple-iOS-Devices-iPhone-iPad/Sending-Emotions-on-text-messages-and-85-bill-for-it/m-p/382936#U382936 the group send seams to be the issue for over 25 contacts according to official support links in that thread also if you have imported from facebook and 1 of the contacts has email address etc.
