I am currently in a contract and I am able to switch-up. However, I was hoping to go in-store and switch-up, hand in my old phone, and then return the new phone I receive, before then leaving o2. I am wondering if this is possible as I've heard conflicting reports. I know if I do the switch-up online, I have to send the phone away and this can take a bit to get processed so though going in-store would be the best option. I also don't know how quickly I can return the new phone (I know it has to be within 14 days) and if I should do at same branch etc. I just want to be left with a rolling airtime that I can use a PAC code to transfer to another network.

Main reason for leaving may be obvious as of late but I'm also just not getting the signal I need, where I need it.

Thanks for your reply, however the quote you mentioned on this thread is from the section of the T&C's that specifically relate to the over the phone or online switch ups and not the in-store ones. I can't see mention on those regarding what happens if a switch up is accepted and completed in-store and then you return phone during the 14 day period

I'm sure O2 will have closed any loophole relating to using switch up purely to leave.
