O2 Switch UP - Early Upgrade Fee??

I can use O2 Switch Up from today.

But after looking at the website and adding a phone to my basket etc, It says I need to pay an early upgrade fee.

What on earth is this? I have never had this "fee" before. Not as far as I know anyway. I have paid £10 upfront before but never the £10 plus a fee.

So what gives?

Go do your Switch up in-store, @Nagasaki - then you can ask someone who knows and who can do something about it. Also your returned phone's value is assessed in-store and not by a 3rd party who might say your phone value is less than at first thought...

Seconded on doing the switch indoor.

O2 have changed to company who handles returns and they seem to be dragging their heals.

You could find yourself paying for two phones

To me this sounds like when you are too quick on the draw for the switchup... rather than anything nefarious...

@Nagasaki what time did you try and do this ?? As I would say to do it during the working day and not the early hours of the morning

Just a thought. If you take the Switch Up bolt on with a basic tariff @£6.99 per month, that's now £76.89 you have to give them to switch up at the 11 month point.

The number looked farmilar... Its the same as the device plan.

So they want me to pay another months worth of the device plan? What about my bill? Its due out in a week. Will they remove the device plan payment from it hmmmm

O2 Switch Up is still 90 days at the moment. It will change in Jan. Anyone on O2 Switch up or who signs up before the change will still get the 90 days even after Jan. But any switch up after that date in jan (22nd?) will then be on 11 months.

Yes, I know how it will work. (Well until O2 move the goalposts again)

Thankfully the last time I had a handset on contract from O2, or any network, was in 2007. Same with airtime, nothing more than 12 months. I'm paying the same now as in 2019!

I got the "Early Upgrade Fee" back, the bill was adjusted and the device plan payment was removed.
