Usually cheaper although you may find the Annual price rise applies to both the airtime and the handset.

Cheapest way tends to be buying the handset (Samsung, Amazon etc have payment plans) then getting a SIM only contract from the likes of USwitch

I currently have a Sim only deal which is out of contract. My Oppo phone is starting to play up so was looking to upgrade to a Samsung A56 5G. However, looking at my upgrade options on MyO2, I can get a far better deal by upgrading through mobilephonesdirect.co.uk. Same phone with unlimited calls and texts and 200gb date per month for £27 over 24 months.

Is it normal to get better upgrade deals elsewhere rather than upgrading directly with O2 ?

Annual price rise fixed at £1.80, @Enlli - the old APR+3.9% would apply to the total bundle price from a reseller.
