Cancel contract sim never used

Is there a way to cancel an o2 sim that was given to me by virgin when i had my broadband/tv with them but did not get cancelled when i cancelled the TV package?

I have never used the SIM nor do i have an unlocked phone to temporarily insrrt the sim in to so i cannot receive PAC codes or anything like that.

I have a feeling the only way will be through customer services, but the last 3 times i called them they have said they were transferrong me to another department then ended the call, so thought i would ask here before trying again.
