Don’t understand my first bill

Just got my first bill. It states -£25. Don’t understand the minus. I was told by an agent my contract was £20 a month on pay monthly not £25. Also saw mention somewhere about line rental. It’s a mobile phone bill not broadband .....

A minus value means you are in credit.

This could be due to overpaying previously if you upgraded but we wouldn't know here.

The minus sign signifies that you owe £25. Money you pay in gets a plus sign.

The most likely reason for the extra £5 is a pro-rata adjustment to the start of your billing period.

Line rental is just the term used for your mobile phone number. The technology changes, but the terms remain the same.

No, the minus sign means that @MikeSilver is in credit and there is nothing to pay this month and with a tarff of £20 there will be nothing to pay next month either as long as allowances aren't exceeded

Standard accounting format.

A credit is shown negative meaning nothing to pay as you can't pay a minus amount.
