Upgrading phone mid-way through billing month

I'm planning to upgrade to a new phone, and am trying to work out whether it's best to wait until the end of my billing month to do it.

If I upgrade mid-way through my billing month, what would happen to my current contract's airtime costs - would I have to pay the full month on that, plus a full month on the new airtime contract?

(My initial contract has ended so I'm currently just paying airtime.)

It's all done pro-rata, you'll get charged the correct amount - the first bill looks confusing, but is what you'd expect to pay. Essentially, you get a partial refund for the billing month that you're in the middle of now.
