This wont affect everyone. Its for a select few smartphone users. Some handsets will give off an alarm sound. This is a test run for a software that has been introduced to warn people of terror attacks.

Just so you are aware we are carrying out an operator test of the government's Emergency Alerts service today. So if you received one of these alerts you do not have to worry, there's no need to take any action.

And if you'd like to find out more information about this service, search for gov.uk/alerts

Its been all over the news for the past few days. I guess the fact its a random selection of customers means they cant really know who gets the alert.

It was a very limited test and we didn't expect to see much @MikeLanglois @MI5 @jonsie, that's why we only had the info at hand in case anyone enquired
