Transferring number but keep the old contract?

Ive found a great deal elsewhere and want to transfer my o2 phone number to this new contract. However I'd like to keep the existing o2 contract on also to let my son use it as it's a pretty good deal too. If I get the pac code for my o2 contract will this end the contract? Or can I give o2 the pac code for another number to carry it on? I'm confusing myself!

Hi @Angie82

If you want to keep your existing contract running for your son then you should do nothing immediately. Requesting your PAC will end that contract.

Your best bet is to take out the new contract and ask to keep your number via this route

https://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-sims-and-devices/how-to-keep-your-mobile-number

You would probably need to involve customer services... as your son, using your old contract, will need a new sim/phone number for the account you are leaving in place for him.https://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

Yes I'm aware there will be a new sim come with the new contract and this is where I expected CS to get involved so they could swap the numbers, allowing the OP to keep the one she wants and leaving the new one on the old contract for her son.

This is a possibilty surely? Worked for my son when he gave his old phone/contract to his mate (with 3 months to run) and got himself a new phone but wanted to keep his number.

He was with O2 at the time. Now with EE.

Edited to add he has had the same number for over 20 years and needed it to remain the same for his work.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will check with customer services to see if it's possible. I've had my number for a very long time. Currently have a decent discount on my o2 contract so would prefer to keep it as I doubt I'll be offered it again.
