I guess they don't set it in stone so it can be varied due to network demand at the time.

Maximum call length only 2 hours?

Hi,
I've recently noticed on a couple of occasions on long phone calls the calls cuts off at exactly 2 hours. I wondered if anyone knows if this is an o2 policy or not? It's not that much of an issue because I can phone the person straight back, but it is slightly annoying. All I can find in the o2 terms and conditions us this:

2.6 We may impose a maximum call duration limit on the calls that you make.

I have unlimited minutes on my 12 month sim only plan and have never used more than 700 minutes in one particular month so wonder why my call length appears to be limited as I'm not exactly abusing the unlimited minutes.

Cheers

There is a time limit on calls purely to stop people going over their allowances. There is also the likelyhood of pocket-dials where the customer is unaware that that the phone is connected.

Unlike data, minutes don't cut off once you have reached your allowance. At something like 35p/minute out of allowance charges you can imagine how charges will accumulate.

I think 2 hours is a fair limit, your minute allocation is not monitored by O2 so they won't know you have plenty of allowance left.

Some other networks have a 60 minute limit.
Others have silent call detection.
It's just down to how the network chooses to manage the usage.

Thanks for the replys

Well if it's a standard limit with o2 I can live with it, I don't make 2 hour calls very often anyway.

I do think the mobile networks should state things like this clearly in their terms and conditions though so it's transparent like virgin media do with the 60 minute limit on landlines with unlimited calls. Rather than just 'We may impose a maximum call duration limit on the calls that you make.' Which could be 30 minutes or 5 hours.

Cheers

There isn't. It's flexible. Sometimes you may be cut off after 1 hour and sometimes not at all.

Obviously I know if someone has a limited amount of minutes they cant exceed those...but not that you 'may' be cut off after a length of time...

All the networks do that to a certain degree, but the sneaky ones ones say max 60 mins and don't cut you off, but they start charging you, so you need to watch the length of call all the time there.

I well remember a thread on here perhaps a couple of years ago where a guy wanted to speak with his girlfriend all night whilst they were in their respective homes and he took the hump because he was disconnected after 2 hours. I don't think he trusted her
