Trying to recontract :(

I have 2 O2 refresh contracts and one is at renewal stage. I want the 128Gb iPhone 6s and retentions via live chat offered to waive upfront £70 cost but wouldn't budge on line rental. I explained I would be happy to recontract there and then at no upfront cost and £46 p/m but they said I couldn't have two discounts. The advisor said to try the open code 30% discount but that it wouldn't be eligible as when they checked for eligibility they would see I already had a loyalty discount applied by retentions. Has anyone heard such rubbish? I spend around £100 per month and they seem to want to make me cancel.

It maybe rubbish but you will be better speaking to retentions. Call 202 and choose the option for leaving o2...

Thanks for the reply. Is anyone aware if you can have both discounts though? So if I accept the £70 loyalty waiver can I then add on the O2 open code discount as well?

I looked at giffgaff who wanted £37 upfront and £41 per month. Told the live chat person this but they weren't interested. If I can get the 30% discount added via open then I would stay with O2.

I think the iPhone 6s is exempt from open anyway so it's irrelevant.

Oh she didn't say that! She sent me all the stuff on live chat and said how to claim the discount but never said it was not applicable on 6s. She said I couldn't get it cos can't have 2 discounts.

It's usually 6 months before new iPhone releases can have o2 open and it had to be applied in the first month. ..

I am sure you cant have 2 discounts on one device. Also the 6S wont be eligible for the OPen scheme for another 6 months.

I thought as well the 6s would be excluded but the current faq is not listing it as excluded https://o2open.co.uk/O2Open/servlets/ShowFAQ

Very strange. It was on the FAQ's on release....we answered loads of questions about it...but yes you are correct it isn't showing now?

Are there any exceptions?
We don’t include Pay & Go, any non O2 Refresh tariffs, sharer plans or business accounts in the O2 Open scheme.

I'm fairly sure @MI5 has family and friends and a loyalty discount but call customer service to verify, don't rely on live chat.
