As well as being available on our revolutionary O2 Refresh tariff, you also have the chance to bundle a Sony Xperia Tablet Z for just £99.99, saving a whopping £300! This is an amazing offer and stock is limited. Just to repeat... That's the incredible Tablet Z for a one-off £99.99 when you pre-order the Z2!

Go on, you're tempted right? I know I am... I can almost justify a third handset and second tablet 😉

UPDATE @ 28th May, 2014 - Q&A section added with common questions being asked, and their answers:

Why is the claim site still up? You said it’d be updated! This is closing on the 29th May.
Although we’ve received 2,200+ claims, a large chunk of these were duplicates or were using false data. As a result, we have not yet exhausted all 2,000 tablets we had available for this offer. As outlined in the offer terms, claims must be made prior to 29th May and as we still had tablets available, the site was left open for last minute claims until stock was exhausted. Although Z2 pre-orders were delivered to many on 1st May, some who opted to collect in store still have not actually collected them, so these customers still have until 29th May to get their claims in and assuming they pass validation, will also receive a tablet subject to stock.

Your terms say I’d have a tablet within 28 days of my claim. Where is it?
Due to  the Z2 launching on the 1st May, we had to wait 2 weeks from this date to begin our validations. The reason for this is because it allowed our validation team to ensure the handset wasn’t returned during the 7 day cooling off period. Unfortunately, due to the amount of claims we received during this first week, it took an extra week for us to get all of the returns data from our systems. Our validations began from 14th May and the 28 day delivery clause began from when you were validated. We apologise if this part of the offer terms was not made clear enough, or caused you any confusion.

Where are you now with claims and Tablet orders?
As mentioned above, we’ve had over 2,200 claims, several hundred of which were duplicates or using falsified data. To date, all claims have now been validated. You should have received an update by text alerting you that we have not forgotten about your claim. Of all validated claims, our team have placed around 500 tablet orders, most of which have been delivered. We have around another 1,300 tablet orders to place against accounts which we expect to be completed within the next fortnight. We are currently looking into the possibility of getting more staff involved in this process in order to speed it up and complete them sooner.

Why have some people received a 4G tablet and mine is Wifi?
The tablet offer has always been for the Wifi-only version, though within our allocation of 2,000 Tablet Z’s, some of these were a 4G+Wifi version. We allocated these 4G versions to the first customers to submit their claim, who subsequently passed our validation checks. For the majority of claims, customers will receive the Wifi-only Tablet Z as advertised – but if you were amongst the first, you could get the upgraded 4G version. Whichever version you receive, it’s worth the wait – we promise.

Which order were claims being validated?
Claims were validated in order they were received - eg, if you were the first to claim, you would have been the first to go through validation. In reality, not all of this has been straight forward as some customers submitted data that didn't match what we had on our systems or the account, so we've had to get in touch with some customers to correct these details. As such validating these small number of claims has taken a little longer than expected.

Why haven’t you been in touch sooner with this update?
Unfortunately the launch of the Z2 did cause us some issues. We were always aware the device would launch during the week commencing 28th April, but it wasn’t until much closer to this date that we got an official UK launch date. This had caused us some issues and along the way, our validations team had run into some unexpected issues which they have worked through tirelessly. Despite this, we can again confirm all claims to date have been validated and weather successful or not, you will receive a text confirming the status of your claim.

I find this all amusing. I was fed up of hearing one thing from one person and one from another so I went straight to the source... Sony and they emailed back yesterday to say the O2 stores should be ready to go and will have them by the 28th yet O2 are pushing back till may 1st... They do realise they are putting people off? If mines delayed to the extent that I cannot get the tablet deal I will cancel my contract and go back to three lol.

I've just had a notification that my pre-order is now in the store, but it says come and collect on 1st May. If it's in store now why do I have to wait another week?

Even more frustrating I'm going to Istanbul early on the 1st so won't even be able to collect it then! I wanted to take it with me 😞

Hi Everyone, me again...
There seems to be some confusion and frustration around our May 1st date that I'd like to take the chance to clear up for you all. May 1st is the date we have aligned with Sony, who are also confirming deliveries from the beginning of May on their own internet store. We cannot comment on other networks or companies, but we suspect everyone will be aligned with this official UK launch date. We had previously been made aware that the device would be released sometime during the week commencing 28th April, which our site has always stated. Recently, we had the exact date of 1st May confirmed.

Those who have pre-ordered online should receive their device on release day, 1st May, though we unfortunately cannot guarantee this - but we will do our best, of course.

Those who pre-ordered in-store, you should have received (or will soon...) a confirmation text stating it'll be available to collect from 1st May. As with all releases, we have agreements in place to sell the device from launch date and not before - this is why you'd be unable to collect it from store sooner. Sorry for any frustration this causes.

Hi Chris,

Please can you elaborate on "As with all realseses, we have agreements in place to sell the device from launch date and not before"

My understanding the launch date for the Z2 was the week commencing 14th April for almost every network other than O2 and three. So what you are saying is all the other networks have released their pre-orders before the official Sony release date ?

If I remember rightly Sony stated that they will have the stock to their key partners for any one who pre-ordered ready for deliveries on the week commencing 14th April, which has been fulfilled.

The date that is on the Sony's website for 1st May has never been the official aligned date for pre-otders placed on contracts and was for SIM only orders .

Either Sony has told O2 to hold off until the 1st May, which I some how doubt it or you are not a key partner of Sony, which seems strange either way as you have landed the exclusive Purple.

The annoying thing is the original slight delay from Sony is turning into a further delay which appears to be O2's doing from what I am seeing and the Z3 is just around the corner.

I understand the frustration caused, but we can't comment on other networks around their release date - however, looking on their sites they appear to suggest the device is still on pre-order and not actually available to purchase yet.
1st May is the date we have that has been agreed with Sony, for us to officially release and sell the Xperia Z2. Again, we're unable to comment on that from other networks, but their sites seem to suggest the same date as ours.

Thank you again for your reply.

The reason the other networks are now saying Pre-order for delivery on May 1st is because their initial pre-order stock has already been shipped to their customers. If you look on their site they are no longer offering any pre-order gifts for the deliveries on May 1st.

So it seems O2 is behind most of the other networks in shipping out the initial pre-orders.

Frustrating decision made buy either Sony or O2 to hold the pre-orders back.

To back up my comment above please refer to one of the below websites  with many others stating what I said. That pre-orders where to take priority and to be shipped the week commencing 14th April.

You are correct in that May 1st is the general official release date set by Sony for the UK, however this is for customers that did not place a pre-order.

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/sony-xperia-z2-uk-release-date-...may-1-but-pre-orders-to-ship-next-week-1241202

Members of a well known forum thatpre-ordered have received their Z2's last week and also O2 Germany have even delivered customers pre-orders today.

That's all of my frustrations out with now and

for what ever unknown reason for the O2 UK delay for pre-orders, I will continue to wait for the official Sony UK release date of May 1st for customers that did not place a pre-order.

Silly me for thinking if I pay my contract up early to pre-order, I will be more of a priority than those who haven't.

It's a shame that you clearly already have the phones in stock and we still need to wait, and about the agreement with Sony, what benefit would it make to Sony to start selling their phones later when they already faced a delay of 2 months, the release was planned for March.
